I have been switching over to reusable silicone storage bags, but there are times that they don’t work the best because they tend to be bulky. So, I’ve been keeping a small supply of traditional plastic storage bags on hand for those times. Then I came across POWERTEC’s Resealable Compostable Food Storage Bags (25 bags). This was the first time I had seen zippered storage bags that are compostable, so I thought I’d give them a try. These bags are about the size of a quart bag. They are not bulky like the silicone bags. The material is thinner, more like a traditional zipper bag. The material looks exactly like other compostable products I’ve used, so I have to believe they are truly compostable. The zip seal is double and is opening and closing easily. I’m actually able to close these more easily than some plastic bags I’ve come across and can do it on the first try. This is also nice as there is an older person in the house who has problems with some of the bags we’ve used in the past. They aren’t having any problem sealing these bags. There are a couple of things you should be aware of with these bags. You shouldn’t use them in the microwave. That isn’t an issue for me as I don’t put traditional bags in the microwave anyway. I just have never felt comfortable doing that. You shouldn't store liquids in them. Well, they are compostable, so that wouldn’t be the best idea. They are also not meant to be used as freezer bags. I’m fine with that as well as not all plastic bags are meant to be used as freezer bags. These bags aren’t terribly expensive, especially for a compostable product which typically costs more. I’m glad to find a product to reduce my use of plastic bags some more. They are keeping my food fresh and sealing well. I’ve been satisfied with these bags for uses as intended.I used to wash and reuse my ziplock bags because I felt so bad throwing them away. These work great and are guilt free. I also use them to hold food scraps for composting. I can throw it in my compost bin without a second thought.I like that these gallon storage bags say that they are stronger than hefty on puncture & tears. I store rice & pasta in my pantry in them. They seal well. As I remove the rice or pasta the bags hold up well. I also like to store my seasonal items in the bags. Winter gloves, scarves, caps all fit well in the bag. I have not had a bag tear even when I really stuff it. The slider seal is good to help seal the bag when I let extra air out of the bag just prior to sealing it. Very versatile bags for food as well as non food items.
