I was shopping around for quite some time to find storage containers for rice that could handle larger bulk quantities. I make a lot of meals in bulk and use enough rice that I buy 25 pound bags of it. It shouldn't be difficult to find decent larger kitchen storage containers at a reasonable price, but for some reason it is.Amazon came to the rescue again after searches through the retail stores failed me. I got this Japanese rice container for about 27 dollars when equivalent containers storage wise would have cost me far more. I decided to order one and see how it performed as it seemed to have good reviews.I was pleased with the order when I received it and tested it out. The container itself is made of sturdy plastic, and the lid has two clasps on the side that snap into the lip at the top of the container to secure the it in place. The nice thing about the design is that you can easily carry the container the way that the lip is designed from place to place. I was concerned that this would be something difficult to move out of my pantry to the counter, but the way that it is designed, it is no problem at all to carry. The container also comes with a small measuring cup and plastic container that can sit at the top of the container when closed. I believe that this smaller container was designed so that you could pour the remaining rice into it before refilling the container with another bag of rice. This was a nice little extra touch that I wasn't expecting, but shows good thinking. As for performance, the container works as I expect it to. It says that it is rated for a 22 pound (10kg) bag of rice. Rice is sold in 20 and 25 pound bags where I am. The 20 pound bag fit easily, the 25 pound bag was a much tighter fit, but with some tapping the container against the ground to "settle" the rice a bit, I was able to get it into the container as well. I'd say that the 22 pound rating is pretty conservative, but 25 pounds will be a tight fit.The container itself does not appear to be perfectly air tight, but I have had no problem with bugs. If you are concerned, put some baking soda or diatomaceous earth around the container on the floor and you shouldn't have any trouble at all.Bottom line is that this container exceeded my expectations and was a perfect solution to my rice storage problem. I've considered ordering additional containers to store other things as well.Highest Recommendation
